When you speak to me about your deepest questions, you do not want to be fixed or saved: you want to be seen and heard, to have your truth acknowledged and honored. If your problem is soul-deep, your soul alone knows what you need to do about it, and my presumptuous advice will only drive your soul back into the woods. So the best service I can render when you speak to me about such a struggle is to hold you faithfully in a space where you can listen to your inner teacher.
from “A Hidden Wholeness” by Parker Palmer
This little paragraph gives us much to consider in terms of how we listen as spiritual directors as well as how we listen to each other in every day life as fellow human beings, travelers on the soul journey. Who are the people in your life that really need you to listen to them in this way? Your spouse, children, co-workers? This is a wondrous gift that we can offer in all of our lives, not just in the spiritual direction space.

My belief about healing work is that the person who seeks to be healed has all the answers inside. This beautiful passage affirms what I believe.
