Pilgrimage

In a few hours I will be heading out of Alaska to attend the Spiritual Director’s International Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.  The theme this year will be focused on the 100th anniversary of Thomas Merton’s birth.  I am especially blessed to wrap up this conference with a four day retreat at a monastery in rural Kentucky near Merton’s monastery of Gethsemani.  We will visit his grave and be shown around the grounds by one of his novices.  (A very old man by now, I am sure.)

I am very excited for all the possibilities that this journey will hold.  Thomas Merton has been a true soul friend to me, leading me into both contemplation and spiritual direction, so I view this trip as a pilgrimage. I hold all of you in my heart as I make this journey.  It is my intention and prayer to return with a sense of renewal and commitment to the ministry of spiritual direction.  I am so grateful for each one of you as you dedicate so much of yourself to the ministry of deep listening and connection.
